A friend is looking to buy a 31 Bahia Mar, in any condition, from poor to excellent.
Money is not an issue.
Does anyone know of any Bahia Mar on sale, or selling his?

My friend knows it, he says this boat has a financial burden that unless paid, he cannot transfer ownership.
The seller expects to pay out the debt with the revenue, but this is not a safe way of doing business from the purchaser’s standpoint.

If it’s just a normal bank loan, that’s pretty common stuff.

I don’t have more details, the deal broke at some point due to this.
The buyer wants a 31 bahia to replace another one which he lost/destroyed (?) .

That is my boat. The buyer was from Greece and doesn’t understand how a boat mortgage works. There is no financial burden on my boat. And your “friend” dicked me around for 3 months and backed out on acceptance day.

My friend is a yacht broker.
I understand that he has dealt with boat purchases and sales by the hundreds. Especially with boats from the usa.
He told me that he cannot transfer any sum of money which would satisfy a mortgage (what I initially called a burden, which in a way it is), without a guarantee that the boat title is simultaneously transferred to him. If not, there is a gap in time between the two transactions that the purchaser does not want to take a risk for. Im sure there may also exist other complications due to the internationality of the deal.
The purchaser is a shipowner (in the multi billion range) and his company’s legal group plays the maritime law in the tip of their fingers, so they definitely understand how a mortgage works, therefore my agent friend has to account for that too...
I personally have no interest, financial or other, to meddle in any such transaction, I only hoped I could help.

If you think I could do anything to facilitate the deal, please let me know.

I would've have really liked to make the deal happen and still would be interested. Perhaps the broker could do some more research on the US boat buying process and see that there is nothing wrong or concerning with doing a deal this way. It would be really cool seeing my old boat cruising the Med.
