Bowrail opening B28

As I almost always moor bow-in (I prefer to sit on my deck and watch the sea, as opposed to the diesel truck driver's hairy legs), I had to do something, or my ageing friends would not be able to enter my boat anymore.

So, I cut open a piece of the bow rail and put it on a hinge, so that it flips up to let people in and back down in place, without much hassle.

Here's how it's done:

The forward piece flips up to the starboard:

It rests on the fenders, without protruding, so that the angled section does not bother by-passers as they walk aft:https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/510 ... 4c4a_b.jpg

Port and starboard stanchions tied up to the deck, to reestablish rigidity:

I'm a happy camper!

Cool looking idea. You do a good job customizing your boat to your boating needs.

And good for you keeping your ageing friends boating. Enjoy your summer.

Thank you gents.

The best and most safe and practical would have been to install a bow rail like they build it on Botnia Targas, the two Π shaped parallel rails on either side of the windlass, with a step in the middle (like a swimming pool ladder).
But all this would have moved away from the traditional Bertram lines, so I remained with this more conservative approach.

Nice work!

Yannis where do you put your B28? I was in Ay Cosmos for 2-3 months (in 2011) and Flisvos in 2014 & 2017.

What do you think is the best marina in Athens?

Beachbum,

I store it dry at the Kalavrias yard, right behind the airport runway. I mean literally 20 m from the south end of the runway.
I do not have a wet slip because I really don't want to spend this money .
I splash from the 4th Glyphada marina (300m from my yard) and move immediately to Aghios Kosmas for a few days, to straighten things out on the boat before I leave to the Cyclades.
Flisvos is too crowded and not as safe, not so much afraid of any serious theft really, rather petty crime like young boys throwing bottles and stuff, as this marina is open to the public.
To me Aghios Kosmas is best, as well as Olympic marina at Lavrion.
If you’re ever around again, let me know so that we meet over a dish or something!
