Anyone done it? Been watching a bunch of videos of boats negotiating the inlet, but haven't seen a '31 yet...just wondering if someone here has, how the boat did?
2:53 mark, the 31 done by Strictly Yamaha with outboards.

Of all the vids I've watched, I missed that one! Twin outboards...gotta find some more info on the boat.
I did see a 25/28? with twin outboards on one of the videos...

I've watched a load of those videos too.
It seems that not one of those guys understands how a VHF antenna functions. Truly unbelievable.

Like everyone else, I have been watching those also. That inlet has nothing on Barnegat on a bad day. Pre 90's Barnegat made that inlet look like a cake walk.

Watching those videos sure beats what on TV...
I'll admit to watching a few too.
Only been out of Barnegat a handful of times on other boats...bigger boats and it was interesting on a few trips. Between that and your great channels it has been a place I have avoided. Maybe someday...

One segment showed a boat heading out w/ his antennae leaning all the back (pointed out in the video) and the boat later on starts taking in water...huge search party sent out because he couldn't communicate with shore to give his coordinates...and I believe he was just offshore.

oh, and just for example, here is the proper way to address the inlet waters:

People pass him bye, the guy up front trying to bail water by with his hands. Too funny.

After running that inlet since 1973, it is second nature. Plus, now if it is bad, I just turn around. I am done with trying to plow thru breaking waves. Only way I would run it when it is breaking is if I was outside trying to get in.
The first year we had the Bertram, we had to cross the outer bar which was breaking pretty bad. We had the cabin door closed when we went thru. The boat took such a twist, we actually split the strike plate on the cabin door. When we came back in, the Coast Guard was laying across the outer markers and would not let the smaller boats thru. They did back off for us and our friend who was in front of us coming in. Had to be a site, two 31's on the back of breaking seas.

I know, I can spend hours watching these videos, a guilty pleasure! By the way, don't watch the ones of the Miami River, too many thongs!

I'm generally not a fan of B31s with outboards, but that boat looked pretty great scooting through the inlet.
My first ride on a B31 was out of Barnegat inlet around 1982 on my friend's dad's B31. It blew up while we were out, and according to the radio the inlet was 10-12s or something like that. He had us sit on the cockpit floor for the run through with our legs braced against the fighting chair. I remember looking up--way up--at some of the waves and the boat just went right through the inlet. His younger brother ran the boat and apparently knew what he was doing. And I thought I gotta get one of these someday.
I ran Barnegat on Crows Nest with Doug on our way to the Montauk rendezvous in 2003 or so. Much easier, but we still had to pick the back of a big wave and ride it in. I remember looking down at the jetty--it was a long way down.

That was your friend with the 4 Aces. Met him once. Actually was at the house talking with the father. Nice guy.
