What's the ballpark price of gas engines and transmissions that would work in a Bertram 31? I'm guessing 8.1 Crusaders or is there another better brand or size that would work well in a Bertram 31?

There is some good info on the blackfin site regarding repairing 29's with gas motors----these seem to be to options available---not sure the pricing:
Three of them 420-475 hp range. One 375 hp.
Gen 4 crusader 6.0 375 hp Small block
Gen 4 PCM LSX 454 cid 475 hp Small block
Gen 5 PCM 6.2 direct injection small block 420 hp
Mercruiser 8.2 big block (like GM big block gen 6).
The 8.1s are GM big block gen 7. Parts are scarce on those now. But still available only at 375 HP. $23k each.

It doesn't sound like the 8.1 would be the way to go. But I'm surprised at the prices of gas engines. It looks like new gas engines,FWC, fuel injected in the smaller block engines with transmissions is still going to be around 17k per engine. Not including installation and any modifications needed. Does this sound about right?

I ordered a replacement 454 from these guys last year, good reputation and my experience was good. All prices listed on the site
The 496 is an awesome package.
If your not afraid to burn some fuel I’m doing 24kts at 3000 rpms and back off to 2200 and get 16 kts. Around 25-2600 I’m doing 20-21 kts with my 454s

What are you getting 25-2600 mile per gallon and at 3000 .5-.8 miles per gallon?

Pete, your getting 24 knots at 3000 rpm???
If I got that I'd stay with gas unless your burning boo- Koo fuel.
Even 24 mph at 3k is good...provided of course your getting rated WOT

24 knots @ 3000 rpm is outstanding !
Now is not a great time to be shopping for motors....cause there's no inventory!!!
On the gas side anyways.
Not just a shortage, there's no inventory.
Combination of the manufacturing shut down earlier this year for engine blocks (USA) and all the peripherals that come from China.
It's scary to say the least.
