Hello All
I don’t know if anybody has seen this but I just discovered it. There are a bunch of guys in Massachusetts building a massive 38 foot wooden sailboat. The work that needs to be done is unbelievable. The craftsmanship is amazing. I’m not into sailboats but this is like old time ship building. They have a YouTube channel with many videos but they also have a part one and part two video that recaps the last few years. You can look it up on the Internet it’s pretty amazing. Hope some of you enjoy this.

Have not heard about it. Working on wooden boats and building a wooden boat is a becoming a lost art.

These guys harvest their own trees and mill them. They make a 9000 pound lead keel it’s just amazing to watch.

I knew that sounded familiar.
Bruce brought this up some time ago.

Sometimes I wish I could give up this and go build a boat...

Then again I sort of am doing that...without giving this job up and it is just a repower.

...and of course there is the fact I'm allergic to wood.

Forty some years ago I spent one winter resurrecting a 16' wooden sail boat. After sailing her for two seasons I sold her and bought a fiberglass boat.

My wife's Uncle in his younger days used to be a big Wood Boat guy. In fact for a while he was a Trustee with the Toms River Seaport and Museum. He used to run their Classic Wooden boat show every year. I love wooden boats but too much work.

In my 30’s I restored an old Rybovich. It was a true labor of Love. It was all wood and fiberglass sandwiched into art form, it was an honor to have the opportunity to work on this beautiful vessel, let alone to own her and enjoy her! She was truly a classic with lines that others would envy...
But most of my time on her after the restoration was maintaining her. The wood was constantly in motion and always in need of attention. Not a lot of time to fish. Even sitting on the hook I couldn’t relax and had to give her elbow grease and love. It was sad to move her on, but I made a handsome profit and now have time to fish! We have to pick our own poison wisely…

I’ve been watching this on youtube it’s amazing other people just come in to help with same interest and give these guys a hand!
It’s really grown because of the intense interest of surrounding people and there perseverance. Very interesting equipment they gathered along the way too, to help with progression.

Seapalm- the Rybovich history is truly amazing as well.
Here is some reading about company, similar to Bertram in some ways.

A great read, thanks Rocky!
I recently saw a video on a Michael Rybovich boat named “Lizzy Bee”, another piece of art. Google this fine vessel, new and pricey too!

Yes it’s interesting when a boat company grows so does the LOA.
I wonder if these new talented guys with the 38 footer will do another build but more ship-like next.
Like Rybovich’s philosophy: Listen, think, and create, these guys could really take off and persue there special talents
and keep going with it!
I’d like to think I have gained alot of knowledge myself by working with this Bertram group of friends here on my 31, that is with the help of all the collective first hand knowledge everyone shares with us! Truly an awesome site to be a part of.

There is also another channel called “Sampson boat co” with similar extraordinary carpentry skills.
