Fiberglass Shaft Log Question

Post by Vince Luciani »

Hello everyone,

I've decided to go with standard flax packing stuffing boxes in my installation. I read Capt Patrick's tips section where he recommends that the fiberglass shaft tubes be cut flush with the bottom of the boat if using the standard stufifng box to provide adequate flow of water for cooling. I also seem to remember some recommendation that drilling holes in the shaft log is an acceptable alternative to cutting the shaft log flush.

Capt Pat, or others, is drilling holes acceptable? If so, how many, size, etc.?

As always, your input is much appreciated.

Vince,

The hole thing really didn't work as well as I thought it might... Best to cut 'em flush with standard packing boxes.

Br,

Patrick
