Are cats 3208 / 325hp any good? Are they appropriate for a B35 or are they too small?
What could fuel burn and cruising speed be like?
Thanks.
(In case you're asking its about the old 35 !)

3208 in 325hp are good engines. Saw a lot of them in commercial boats with 20k hours or more.
Slow in 35.

Thank you Bruce.

To achieve a 24-25 knot cruising speed how much power would a 35 need?

Hi Yannis,

My B35 has cat 3126's with 420hp and I cruise at 22kts at 21-2200rpms depending on seas. It's a quiet comfortable ride. I can easily cruise at 24-26, though at 2300+ the turbos are really kicking in and here in the Chesapeake the short chop makes it a bumpy ride. Oh yeah I had to use a 1.5:1 trans because I couldn't turn a big enough prop for 2:1

I have a friend with cummins 370hp with 2:1 (I think) and he gets similar performance.

Regards,
JohnD

Thank you John,

Any idea of the consumption curve?
Thanks.
