Table top epoxy

Took my dinette table which was badly worn Formica covered it with thin Lauan plywood put compass rose decal on it and covered in epoxy. Now we have an Almost new table.

Beautiful, although I’m not so sure it’s as...simple as you describe it!
How do you insert a decal? How do you obtain a flat surface? Mystery!

Wood is cut to fit table and glued down. Decal is stuck to table. Table is leveled as good as possible..epoxy is mixed and poured about 1/8 thick..

That is pretty cool. What did you use for the edging?

The edge on the top is existing teak.It is raised higher than the table top itself I guess to prevent things from sliding off. But it made it ideal for what I did. This is the original table.

The table in my 31 did not have any edging on it. Just the white formica. I have to look at my friends 28 in the spring. I don't remember his table having edging either. By the way, you must be pretty good at measuring and cutting. Getting that good of a fit had to be difficult.

All too often in the shop it measure twice, cut once...go get another piece.

Measure 1, 2, 3, 4 times doesn't seem to matter. And always seems to happen on the last piece of material. Maybe ought to change the saying to measure right, cut once.....hmmm

The table looks great! What brand of epoxy did you use for the project? Also, how thick was the piece of plywood you used? I was considering a similar project and was wondering if I could use a thin veneer of teak or mahogany, finished with the epoxy over it?

The plywood is only 1/8 maybe 3/16. I finished the wood with Pettit Sea Gold witch kind of gave it a teak look. I used Total Boat table top epoxy.
It’s an easy 1 to 1 mix. The epoxy is maybe 1/8 thick.
