Circle Hooks for billfish?

Post by Capt. Mike Holmes »

Got a notice from the National Association of Charterboat Operators that the gov'ment backed off on the requirement for circle hooks for billfish for the rest of 2007. For the guys in the Gulf, they also seem to have backed off on tightening restrictions on vermillion snapper, and in fact, might be loosening up on this species.

Doesn't mean we can't still use circles, if we want to.

Circle hooks ruling for Billfish in is not required for 07 tournments but will be in 08. You can still fish with whatever hook you want to use. The Fisherman in the Carolina's raised so much stink about them, being their perferred bait was a Islander lure w/ballyhoo that they change the ruling for 07 to get more imput & information.

But you might want too go ahead & get use to using them because in 08, your using circle hooks with live or dead bait rigs only. Better start practicing now.
