B35 Q on engines

Does anyone know what are the 2-3 most appropriate diesel engines for the old B35?

Running economy and reliability/longevity are the key elements I'm looking for.

Thanks.

I would lean towasrds Cummins. In you neck of the woods it might be easier to get Iveco. I think Cats will be too tight.

I would think between 350 to 400 HP. That is a heavy boat to push.

Thanks Tony.
There are also those 370-375 Yanmars, I cant recall which Yanmar model (315 or 370) had some serious issues with the time belt? or valves?
It was resolved afterwards, but would be good to know which model and period to avoid.
Thanks.

I believe they were BMW engines that Yanmar rebranded as their own. I think they came out around 2006. Not really sure.

The Yanmar 315's with the valve issue were built sometime around 2003-2004 and the color of the valve guides was an indicator if yours were built with the faulty parts. Yanmar published the serial numbers of those engines. Mine were built just afte and have been wonderful engines.

Yanmars 315's were built by Toyota and are the same engines, marinized, installed in diesel Land Cruisers.
