Sliding window edge seal

Post by pschauss »

The sliding window on the starboard side of my boat has no seal where it overlaps the fixed glass pane. I have found a few sources for edge seal but they all want to sell it in 8’ lengths. Do you all know of any place which sells shorter pieces.

I ended up buying 8' of this stuff from Jamestown Distributors.

It fits nicely using the recommended glass setting tape although it is not an exact match for the aluminum channel which was used on the port side sliding window.

I have about 6' left over if anyone needs a short length.

You may have already figured out a solution, but I used "window edge seal" from McMaster Carr. Had it on for about 1 year -- holding up good. Ran a thin bead of RTV on it before installing. My guess is it will last several years before needing replacement...

The StanPro stuff I got from Jamestown worked well for me although installing it with the glass in place was a bit of a challenge. I was concerned that it would work loose, but, so far, it has not. It seems to have cut down significantly on the amount of rain water that gets in.

I have about 6' of it left if anyone wants some.

good info guys, I need to work on my windows as well.

What has anyone used to replace the "felts" along the bottom track?
And how do you get the old felts out?
