Bearing dimensions

Hi,
Hauled out at the weekend, and saw my strut bearings need replacing.
They are the only things I didn’t replace in last year’s rebuild, as they looked like new. Obviously the new engines and shafts were not best aligned with the bearings, which I will address.

My question is what would be the outside bearing diameter be (with original struts)? And what length are the bearings? My shafts are 1 3/8.
I am overseas at the moment, but want to order the bearings so they are delivered by the time I get back.

I am going to try to remove the bearings with the shafts in place. Wish me luck!!

David

1-3/8" bearings come with OD's of 1-7/8, 2", 2-1/8 & 2-3/8".

I have seen many of the same boats, same power, same shafts, same struts, come through with different bearings.

Me, personally I'd confirm OD on your boat before buying...they are readily available all over.

As to the length, they are 5-1/2". Verify cutless bearing is even with the aft part of strut, section by wheel. The bow section can be shorter or longer...no worries just leave as is.

No petroleum products on shaft trying to slide it in as it reacts with rubber...if you need a lube to slide shaft in, use liquid dish soap, Dawn Palmolive etc.

The hydraulic tool to press bearings with shaft in place is a snap.

I have used the manual tool by Strutpro. It worked well.
