Belt dressing spray

Post by pschauss »

I have always been skeptical about snake oil products like this, but Nigel Calder recommends regular application of a belt dressing on the alternator and raw water pump belts. I looked a some of this stuff at Pep Boys and the label warns that it is highly flammable. Is it safe to use this stuff on a marine engine. I believe that the label and Nigel both recommend spraying it on the belt while the engine is running?

Thanks,

Nigel Calder was an idiot writer.
If the belts are tightened properly and in good shape you don't need belt dressing.
