How much chain do I need for a "lunch hook" in Great South Bay. Depths are mostly in the 6-10' range?

Thanks,

listen to mike you go buy the pretty white vinyl covered 5' chain so you don`t rust stain your foredeck and that is more than enough. you would be more than happy to find 6 to 10' of water around the anchored boats off the restaurant areas of Fire Island more like 4' !!!!!

I keep a separate anchor in a plastic clam basket just for anchoring in the bay, relatively small fluke anchor with 5-6 feet of galvanized chain. Light enough for a guest to assist me with. I keep it in the cockpit, run the line up to a bow cleat and drop it from the cockpit. If the wind and tide aren't to bad I can pull it by hand and walk it back to the cockpit.
