Walter’s Bluebeard has been found!

She is owned by a fellow in Cameroon. That is right, Africa! West coast to be specific, and he has been doing a good amount of the proper work to the beautiful factory blue baby that was Walter Kaprelian’s. He has pulled the engines, painted them, done the whole bilge too, and done what appear to be some decking repairs to shore up the teak deck that the boat had. His name appears to be Alex and he is gunning for the men in blue suits. Very pleasing to see Bluebeard in the hands of a good steward. Thought people might like to know.

Miss you Walter...

Your friend,

Dug

I last saw Bluebeard at Montauk Marine Basin as Carl Darenberg (a friend and gift donater of our website) pointed it out to me.
Now Walter and Carl are both gone.
Good to see Bluebeard is in good hands !!

I saw that too Dug! He looks like a nice young kid with a great boat! Should put Bluebeard to work for a bunch more years!

I saw it as well. Classy old girl, looks like she's in good hands. I never was a member when Walter was here but I enjoy going back and reading his posts from time to time.

Both Walter and Bluebeard were classic originals. I won his
Bucket harness at the last rendezvous in one of the raffles. Prized possession.BH

I had Capt Walter sign a copy of his cookbook, The Captains Cookbook at the Greenpoint Rendezvous...nice a man as they come. First time I've ever requested an autograph...also the 1st time I ever wanted one.

Dug where/how did you locate on the boat?

Great guy. Great cookbook. First time I met Walter was at a Montauk rendezvous when this guy walked up out of nowhere--Walter--and just started helping Doug and I fix the "collapsible " outrigger on Crows Nest. He is missed. Thanks Dug. Cool story about Bluebeard

Dug,
My son Jim is the steward of Walter's Bluebeard Too, his baby Bert. We have good memories of dealing with him and his pride in both boats.

Africa, wow made it a long way from its home. Glad to hear he is bringing her up to snuff.

Walter was a first class guy.

Miss wealth of knowledge.

Carl, it popped up on a Bertram group on Facebook. Whaler pointed it out to me. The owner and I started to chat. He bought it from the guy who bought it from Walters wife. He is a very proud owner for sure!

Update!
The owners name is Alex, and he had a bit of a surprise.

I thought it only fitting that he have a copy of Walters book, so I bought one on Amazon, and forwarded it to him, via a friend of his in Miami. He got it during the last day or so, and is super pleased. On the boat front, after he finished all the work he had been doing on Bluebeard they splashed her. He got 30 minutes or so of enjoyment and lost a transmission. As as result, she is back on the hard, and will be recieving a couple of new transmissions that will be on their way from the states.

Boy, having a boat here in the US is trouble enough. I can only imagine being in what is effectively a third world country and waiting on parts. Amazing.

Enjoy the day everyone! I love the community that these boats bring!

Waiting for parts is one thing...

Tell me about the mechanics!
