The name of my boat is "Axe" so I was not going to fill up the transom. Also I have steps on the Port side of the transom.
I went with 13 x 28 overall. AXE is 8" tall and the port is 2.7" tall

That depends on the name. Are you printing the lettering yourself? In my opinion you're better off having a decal guy do it for you, they will typically come measure and photograph the transom and then send virtual mock-ups with different fonts, etc and typically come and install. If the boat is out of the water, even better it saves you some money because you want need to have the boat hauled.

For reference, here are few examples the decal maker sent me and final install. I decided to wait on installing the port-of-call until the swim platform goes on to ensure proper alignment.

Marlin -

I live full time in Columbus but keep the boat at Gem Beach Marina on Catawba Island. My family has a home right around the corner from CIC and we go there regularly. In my opinion, CIC is the best marina/club on the Great Lakes.

How long ago did you keep a boat there? Another guy here on the board, Moguls2Go (Max) and I are life long friends and we spent summers on Catawba and worked at CIC as dock hands. Small world.

If you ever make it back that way, let me know.

Charlie

I seem to remember the guy that did mine would use a projector on the transom in order to visually see what size looked right.
He could go in or out making the letters smaller or larger.
John Teeto, painted my letters. Very good guy in S. FL.
