Hey all you fine folks. long time lurker you have all helped me out so much in the past with my 1966 Bahia Mar. So heres whats up!

Im looking into repowering the old girl. currently it has a old LT1 and i will be most likely replacing it with a used Volvo 5.7L and Duoprop motor that I picked up for cheap. the question is not about the motor swap it's about the fuel tank. As mine is a 66 is has a terrible 30US gal tank in it. the idea is to put in a 55 Gal and try and move it a little forward so that the boat will sit a little less ass heavy when loaded with fuel and Horsepower!.


What are the dimensions of the stock tank? and how far forward could i possibly move a bigger tank?

I am not certain of the original dimensions, but when I re did my B20 Bahia, I put in a ~100 gallon (110 US gallon I think).

Powered with a 4.3 V6 Volvo duoprop.

Positioned right up against the bulkhead at the cuddy.

Balance in my opinion is perfect.

Chines are about 1 inch underwater at rest.

Perfect thanks. I think i have a lead on a tank that will fit for a really good price. thanks for the info. I guess with the big 5.7L it will be a good idea to push that tank as far up to the bow as possible. i will shott Rocket of a PM. I had no idea there was another 20 out here in BC other than hacked up forestry boats.

There are a few 20's around here. I put in a much larger tank, a little over 400 liters, it ends ahead of where the bulkhead hits the floor. with my volvo 5.7 and duoprop XDP Drive (5.7 OSXi) it still is aft heavy at rest (chines 3-4 " under) but very well balanced on the plane, top speed 50 Knots (62 mph) , still solid as a rock. I have heard that there is a recall on the XDP Drive and Volvo wants them out of service, but I have had no issues. My boat is currently at my cottage in the east, but spends its winters on the coast.
