Saw this on Youtube and thought it might be of interest to some of the brothers...
Re: How to: teak gunnel covering board
My old man was just out in June for a week refinishing ours... I don't have a great 'before' shot, but you can see what they looked like here (I'm sure many of you are familiar with the classic American novel being read, The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog. We used SIKKENS Cetol Marine Wood Finish; I was hoping for more of a matte finish, but it certainly looks 150% better than it did:

Here's an 'after' shot:

Family shots are great. Boat looks nice! One comment - are you sure you want to read the kids the "Sharks" book that lies on the engine hatch given you are acclimating the kids to the wonders of the boat :)
Re: How to: teak gunnel covering board
Thanks guys- yeah, a friend brought the Sharks book along, not sure what his plan was there.
I love the way Worton Creek did the teak on Huntress... what do you suppose they finished these with?

John Patnovick at Worton Creek almost certainly uses Tip Top Teak products. Most professionals do...

Thanks Capt. Pat; do you suppose that's Tip Top's Wood Oil-Sealer product? I'm a newbie to wood; this is the first boat I've owned with any wood accents, but I'd heard that oil collects dirt more easily, which led us down the SIKKENS path...CaptPatrick wrote:John Patnovick at Worton Creek almost certainly uses Tip Top Teak products. I love teak decks--and Wharton looks like a beautiful job--but I prefer hatches that are not pictured framed.
I saw a HUNTRESS in Brielle recently is that the same boat?

Me too!... I'm just scared off by the (alleged?) maintenance...Craig Mac wrote:I love teak decks
I actually prefer the look of the picture frame hatches... I think there's also a functional argument in favor of the picture frame hatches... Something to do with them being less susceptible to damage when you open/close the hatch...Craig Mac wrote:I prefer hatches that are not pictured framed
