Detroit 8.2s and Racor CCVs or CVs

Crows Nest has twin 300 hp 8.2s marinized by J&T. I need to reduce the amount of fumes for the wife.

I made crap cans out of PVC with an inlet and an outlet, and put an oilsorb diaper in each can. I ran the breather hose to the cans and then the outlet hose vents outside the boat under the gunnel through the old gasser blower vent. While the engine compartments and bilge are cleaner, the fumes are still bad, especially at idle/slow troll speeds. The oil mist/fumes from the breather just exit outside the boat and are "fresh" instead of sitting in the bilge/boxes.

I´d like to try the Racors CV or CCV systems. The CV vents out the boat, and the CCV vents back into the aircleaner. Anybody try these? Any suggestions?

John,

I've got no experience with the Racor CCV but Walker Engineering AirSeps do a good job of dealing with crankcase fumes. The Racor CCV might be better at protecting against contaminated crankcase blow-by...
