Deck support beams
What type of wood was used for the deck beams as constructed by Bertram?

Re: Deck support beams
When a couple of mine showed signs of weakness, I sistered them all with 5/4" mahogany.
Re: Deck support beams
There's a reason mahogany is so popular in marine applications... IOW, you can't go wrong with mahogany...
Having said that, personally I would go with a prefabricated structural FRP U shaped profile...

I used Coosa, never rot
Re: Deck support beams
I had my deck up to replace the fuel tank. Some of the floor supports were less than stellar. So I replaced all with structural channel from McMaster Carr. They worked wonderful. I bonded them to the stern and cut the channel to make vertical posts tha were bolted through the stringers and the floor beams. Strong and never will it rot.
