Hey, I have a question for ya'll. I have both rectangular hull straines and perko inboard strainers. the perko are leaking. I can rebuild them, but is it necessary to have both? thanks again for the input Russ

Russ,

See: http://bertram31.com/proj/tips/strainers.htm If you meet these criteria, dump the internals...

I never ran internal strainers in all my boats up here
used south bay external strainers, never had a issue

Pat, Charlie thanks for the come back. one is out the other will be tomorrow, we are in a rain delay now. my other B31 also had both types and every time I checked the perkos they had nothing in them. It saves weight and adds room, every sq ft counts . Russ

Russ Pagels,
The Perko internal strainers can be rebuilt, they have only a few parts, large O ring and small thumb screw and O ring. If I were you I would get rid of the internal strainers, it frees up more room for other stuff and the bottom mounted screened drop down strainers work very well. I got rid of mine a few years ago.
