The earlier model (IC-M125) was the better one.

Mike,

I bought this 127 to replace my 120 when I found out that ICOM was going to discontinue these models. Problem is, my 120 just keeps working and working.

I've got a 125 on AJ and they can be souped up real easy. Bought a 126 on ebay a few years ago for a backup and it works ok, but not like the 125. The 125 (and the other 120 models below it) are built like a brick sh*thouse - they can put out 100 watts without breaking a sweat with just a little tweaking.

During one of the UVIs - think it was the one where Linda got DQ-ed, we were all fishing around a deepwater drilling rig and got zapped by a close lightning srrike. Knocked the 125 for a loop, but all it took to fix it was to do a "master reset" which takes the manual to follow the keystrokes.

Most all of the Icoms come from the factory "locked down" and if you can talk them out of the code to "open them up" they work a lot better. I had that issue on my 802 SSB it took a month of harrassment to get the code out of them.

Vic: I haave a 125 with the telephone style handset that I love. How do you soup them up? Is it just some code?

On the 125 you have to get inside, think on the 126 & 127 it can be done with the codes. The 802 SSB is all codes.
