Looking forward to Greenport, I'm having rotator cuff surgery in a few weeks and my wife may have issues getting off work in August. Worse case scenario we will be there by car again. Hoping to travel by water though...

On another note I happened to speak with the owner of Wickford Marina http://www.wickfordmarina.com looks like a nice place and would be interested in a future event if we ever head that way

We stayed at Wickford for a few days while cruising to Newport in the early sixties. I remember there was a rocky beach and an artsy feel to the town. There was an older lady whose house we visited that was training ballet dancers for some big shot in NY. She had a stage in her home and allowed us to come in and attend the rehearsals.

Wow, I haven't thought of that in years. thanks for bringing old memories to the front of my addled brain.

Stopped by the marina in Greenport today and picked up the event application form... Filing fee for that is 50 bucks, I have a connection for a commercial party tent... The marina will require insurance as well for the length of the event which typically runs 250-275 per day...

I remember a discussion on the insurance
last year.
Did we wind up having to insure last year ?
Is the tent the trigger for the liability insurance?

I guess the tent makes it official... But I can say that I speak for my family of 6 last year and Phoenix's family that last years patio seating was an absolute uncomfortable joke, from the dirty tables, lack of chairs and the unfriendly workers of that shop.. Obviously the company of my Bertram brothers is welcome in any setting a tent setup is ideal... Again a friend of mine has a tent co and can supply tables and chairs as well... If a raffle is what it takes then who has hooks in with vendors to try and get some quality donations and we can work up the funds that way... Thoughts??

I know that I can get a raffle item related to Montauk Marine Basin.
Anyone wanna do shirts ? .... raffle items are easier to gather with the free advertising on T-shirts.

yes the tent is the reason for the insurance requirements for the town .as we had a relatively small group last year ,We opted out of the tent and insurance.i agree the tent and party was a nicer setup .john fyi the gentleman that owned the shop let us use his patio and furniture.

Whaler ... when I'm not "playing boat", I'm an accountant in the insurance industry.
Do you have an insurance contact that you specifically wish to use ?
I requested an application from our "agency management VP" and can complete to check on pricing.
Not looking to step on toes ... if you have someone, no biggie .... let me know.
Do you know the liability requirements ?

I dont mind at all... The cheaper the better... Its a general event liability policy there should be a standard...

Guys,

Have dates been inked for the Rendezvous yet? I may be losing my mind, but I'm not seeing the exact dates in the previous posts.

Thanks,

John

ok mates its about eight weeks until our get together .Chloe gets splashed tomorrow .I think its been a late year for most of us in the northeast. As of last week only three boats have their reservations,Westwater ,Resolute and myself. Capt Pats on board and Harv is set .i saw by some of the posts that some newcomers are interested .Its a great location whether you come by boat or not .You won't be disappointed. I think John whaler is working out the details for a tent and the required insurance. It would be good to know who's coming so that proper arrangements can be made . any questions in regard to places to stay etc .feel free to contact me by e mail tjhartsr@aol.com .

I am planning on attending! Lojo is in West Palm Beach in a high-and-dry. We just finished some volunteer work ( http://www.seakeepers.org/Portals/0/Tig ... elease.pdf ) and although we trailer around, too far to tow up to Long Is or run her up the coast- something I look forward to doing in the future when I can take a summer off. I have good friends who have a spectacular place a few minutes away from your chosen Greenport marina; they have offered to host me for this beginning of August visit. Let me know if there is anything I can help with and can't wait to meet you all and see your B's! Rex

Allright guys, it had to come up at some point.....

Unfortunately Brew ( who has gone above and beyond the call for the past rendezvous with his delish food and thirst quenching patron ) will not be able to run the dinner.....

With a lot of people booked we need to decide how and where we are going to do the dinner... As those who have been at the last few Greenport gatherings know, there are a lot of options as far as restaurants go... Now, I know that were all used to getting under the big tent for the dinner, but it may be better this year to save the insurance and rental fees and forgoe the tent and see if we can set up reservations for a large group at a local restaurant... Some input would be appreciated...

Another option would be to rent a large BBQ and grill up a feast, that would be more reasonable than dinner at a restaurant but Im not sure if we would be permitted to do that on town marina grounds??

So watcha think...

While I am not going to be there...if I may, you can also have catered.

Just have Food dropped off

or

Have a few people come in to setup, serve, dish out if buffet style, do the cooking if grilling and then cleanup and go.

Sometimes it's quite reasonable with the right place. You get the informality of your tent setup, kids can play before and after and everybody can enjoy without the hassle of cooking, serving and cleanup.

Just a thought.

There's a spot called Billy's By the Bay in Greenport ... (in one of the other marinas, the chain, can't think of name) ...food is good. He could probably do a clambake kinda thing. I will ask him over the weekend if he does catering and try to get some rates.

No forks, spoons, knives, table cloth, napkins ,tables ,chairs, and every damn thing i forgot just leave the mess and go back to the boats and shoot the bull. Sounds like a few lines from the movie My cousin vinny were he negotiates with a guy his girlfriend beat in billiards for $200.00 The guy threatens him with the money in his hand and he says " hmmm lets see get my ass kick or collect $200.00 ..---------- i could use a good ass kicking ----- but i will take the $200. " with that he grabs the money and runs .

Hey guys we will be coming out on Saturday. Shannon the two boys, my parents and maybe a few friends. Yesterday was Justin's 2nd birthday and the Saturday of the rendezvous is Carter's 5th birthday. The family loves my Bertram brothers so much that there is no hesitation where we will celebrate the birthday.

We are all looking forward to it.

I (as Bimini Bay Outfitters, Ltd.) would like to supply a batch of fishing tackle to the group at the NE Rendezvous but don't know where to ship these items. Unfortunately, I can't make it but can send the goodies to whoever is the lead person for prizes/raffle items.
Please get back to me with a UPS-able address and I'll take care of the rest.
Oh, yeah, who do I contact for a couple of T shirts?!

It looks like I won't be able to join in the festivities -- I've been "kidnapped" to run a boat for a canyon overnighter. I hate when that happens -- especially at over $4.25 per gallo of fuel I don't have to pay for.

Have fun,

Tom

Wondering if there are going to be any 25s there? Its a weekend that I had unfortunately planned to be working upstate, but a friend of mine is interested in buying a 25 and thought the Rendzevous might be an opportunity to see and talk about them. If so I might be able to get free and shoot over from Sag Harbor on Sat in my 25 and bring him along if that's possible.
