b28 rudder question

Post by bertram 20 »

If I decide to change rudders to bigger set on my 28fbc my originals are bronze is there any problem with changing them to stainless and then having electrolisis issues with the different metals under the boat or will this not be an issue? Thanks mike

B20,

If you have properly done, and kept maintained, your bonding system, then there no issue. The rudder shafts get bonded, as do the rudder ports. The dissimilar metals issue pertains primarily to non-bonded items such as alluminum trim/molding secured with stainless steel screws. Even then, the use of Tefgel or other issolating material will keep any problem low.

Patrick
