Prop & Shaft Ordering

Post by JohnV8r »

Hey Guys,

Cummins 6BTA 5.9 270hp with ZF 220A 1.53:1

Three or four blade props? Prop size? Who do I order them from?

Shaft size, material, and who should I order those from?

Thanks in advance!

John

I found this interesting discussion that Russ Pagels started back in December:

John, I have the exacted same set up as you. Ordered my running gear 3 weeks ago and it was at my door last Friday. Received some great input from members, spent hours online and calling around. In the end I went with customer service over cost. All my quotes were within $200 +/-.
I ordered everything from general propeller and spoke with paul. Pleasure to work with, very understanding of my questions being a novice to inboards he even called and emailed after hours. I am more than pleased and they didn't rape me on shipping. Joe

My set up

1 1/2 AQ22 shafts (general propeller supplied)
Buck Algonquin split hubs (general propeller supplied and faced)
4 blade 20x23 nibral props ( sent to general propeller to be lapped and balanced with the running gear)
Stock Bertram struts bored out with thin wall ( Johnson cutless bearings )

Everything came clearly marked and stamped as not confuse anything during install.

John

That is the set up I have. I am running 11/2 on the shafts and 20x23 cupped. I don't have the amount of cup. I run light no tower.

I top out at around 2650 on the tachs. We were 2750 first time around but cupped her a little more. I am just shy of 20 knots at wide open throttle.

2200 I am around 22 knots. 2400 she bounces depending on conditions between 24 and 25 knots. My Bimini blew out this summer so I ran without it for the balance of the year and at 2400 she was a true 25 knots. Amazing the drag the Bimini creates.

Talk with the Prop shop. They will get you close.
