Diamond in the rough

Post by John Swick »

It arrived on Friday and I can't wait to start into it.
Looks to be a very original/unmolested 1971 Bahia Mar.
Will clean up nice.
Needs new motors and the cockpit deck replaced though.

Congratulations. Where in Maryland did she come from? Was she in a yard over by Deale?

John, Great choice, a bit partial to Bahia Mars, now roll up your sleeves and get into making her just the way you want. Keep us posted..BH

John-

I don't know anything about her. I remember seeing the listing, and driving by her last spring or so when I was drove through that yard. Good luck with her.

Good luck with her. She looks like outside of needing to be cleaned up, she is not in bad shape.

Get out the old buffer and that gel will come right up. Use a good cleaner, a good polish then either rejex or wax. The key is the polish. That is what gives it that deep wet look.

Motors are out and off to the rebuilder (hopefully) this week for an assessment.
Image
That's a 2nd fuel tank (aluminium) between the motors.
Image
The fibreglass one is still behind it under the deck.
I think I'm going to go back to the one big tank behind the motors under the cockpit set-up(?).
That's it for now.
Observations and comments are welcome.
Thanks,
John

john
my space is open where you have the second tank
I have my batteries in there and fuel filters mounted on the forward bulk head,
it also makes it nice to work on the engines, climb right in between engines
also my raw water inlets for the engines are located in that space
