Dumb thing for me to ask, but did you try putting liquid soap on it?

Hey Tony I went straight for the axle grease no go with heat.

I felt inside and found I had rubbed a wire out after a fresh cut hose so I cut it again and gave it all I had and got it.

I have been on two sea trial and found the old owner painted over the inlet strainer so I cleaned it up and went through all the hoses and impellers.

Should be all good I found over 90% of the holes were painted over.

Just have to finish installing the 1-Kw air mar and plotter & SST temp gage and I'm going out again.

Make sure end of hose is round, not bent in.
Old hose can turn hard...if so consider replacing.

I like to dip in HOT soapy water for a bit.

When pushing on, try to turn hose in direction that uncoils the wire.

Back in the Navy we used to soak the end of the hose in hot oil for a while... Only on compatible hoses of course... Hot soapy water will also do the trick... The trick being "getting the hose slippery and pliable"...

Dam I just got rid two of those same strainers. The new ones are better because you can drop the screen to clean them. My boat sat in the water so we always painted them. Every couple of years we had to pull them off to clean them up. A real pain.

I used to leave strainers in place and run a drill thru the holes every few years to clean them out.

Removed a couple years ago as many said they were not needed...haven't had a problem and no longer a need to drill out a million little holes while on my back.
