Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
Greenport in my opinion has been a most ideal Rendezvous location. Its had large turnouts, good facilities, and Brewster's great catering. If it's in consideration, it gets my vote.
Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
Greenport gets my vote as well. Pat, as in the past, my door is open...

Looking forward to it! Greenport also puts me in range to take the boat, can anyone speak to the post sandy condition of the marina?

Spoke with the Village of Greenport (Jeff Goubeaud is on vacation) and learned that Mitchell's Marina should be available for August 1 (Thursday) through August 4 (Sunday). Am awaiting a call back from the Village Administrator confirming this and the rate structure for 2013. Most of the North Fork did very well during Sandy and the marina in Greenport was no exception.

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
greenport is good for me. it has enough for the ladies, and the brewster splash is wonderful, if he wants to do it, and i think it can go smoothly as we have had experience with yhe location.
Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
Greenport would work for us as well. Patron with Skakespeare...couldn't be better.

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
Its pretty hard for me to do the Greenport rendezvous as I am not on the island. Anyone want to step up? I am not sure that it needs to be that difficult...

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
Just concluded a conversation with Village Administrator Dave Abotelli. We can have that part of Mitchell's Park we had two years ago for August 1st through 4th (Thursday through Sunday). The Shakespeare festival will be back at the theater on Friday and Saturday so we will have to be careful not to overrun their performances (there was a problem with another group last year, but we are much better behaved). Rates will be the same as before with perhaps a small increase in electric. A mass assembly permit for a tent will have to be obtained from the Village Trustees if we settle on Greenport as the venue for 2013. Boat reservations will be made directly with Jeff at the marina as in the past. How does everyone feel about Greenport for the first weekeend in August. Any volunteers for a supreme leader for the group?

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
It can be as big or small as we make it. When I did Montauk, my personal objective was to make it as affordable as possible for the attendees, but profitable as possible so as to be able to turn over those profits to Captain Patrick for the site. The profitability really came from the raffling of prizes we begged, borrowed and stole from our various suppliers /members/friends (no small task) and the hustling by Bob Fiorese who chased down raffle buyers. The other place for bucks was the sale of T-shirts which were donated that year rather than bought by our own Mike Ohlstein. The dinner on Saturday night was at cost thanks to Brewster's Seafood shop. There WAS a mailing list and a donation list, but I don't know where it's gone. Without donated prizes and T-shirt sales, there is no chance for profit no matter where it's held. The hard part was finding a suitable location, negotiating a reasonable per foot rate, getting a commitment for keeping our group pretty much all in one place in the height of the boating season, and finding a place to hold the dinner without going broke. That hard part is pretty much done thanks to White Bear if we pick Greenport for 2013. We do need a basic coordinator to keep track of the monies and the timing of things coming and going, someone else who will take on the creation, execution and sale of 2013 T-shirts, someone else who will chase down donations for raffling and give-aways, and someone who will take on the setting up of the dinner for Saturday night ie: chairs, tables, plates, napkins, etc. White Bear has already done the basic location work. Bob Fiorese, if he's coming, I am sure will take on the 'Hustling" of raffle tickets. I will ask Brewster next week if he can do the food again this year. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to get donated prizes in order to cover the expenses of the event...and we can start collecting them, no matter where we choose. It does take a special kind of person to take on that job! I'll start by donating six cookbooks.
Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
One thing for sure it is impossible to substitute the Brewster catering factor------ yea he is that good!!

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
I'm back living in NY, so I can help as/if needed.
I still have the letterhead and contact names (somewhere) that we used for gift donations when we were last in Greenport.
I can send letters for donations once we are locked on location and date.

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
as times are difficult for some of our previous suppliers; not to say we shouldn't still try; how about looking in our garages and bilges and maybe we can come up with ksome of our own stuff to raffle off. i have a set of nice speakers that i'm not using, and i'm sure i can find some othter ;stuff.: we can raffle off stuff and ask the winner what they'd like ,rather than this is it. the proceeds go to the site. if anyone has anything that is of value ,we can buy it out of the pot if its not to expensive and raffle it off separetly. if we are going to greenport, i think the breakeven was approx $1,100.00 for the tent.clams and oysters and other stuff before we haD Any money for the site. I'll sell the the tickets again, and we can sell them on the site so many of our members who can't attend can participate. we just need to know early so we can put it on the site we can mail the winner the award of his choice if he gives us choices

Jeff Goubeaud called me yesterday to confirm August 2-4 as he had another group that was inquiring about availability. I told him those dates were good to go so his office is now ready to take reservations.

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
Figuring I'll bump this up to the top...
1. When should we start calling in to reserve?
2. Is there a hotel in walking distance?
Our oldest son Carter will be celebrating his 4th birthday on Aug.2, the baby (Justin) will be one year old come August and we will likely have him sleep in a hotel with my parents. Not sure yet if we will take Justin on a long boat trip, likely my wife would prefer to drive him out. Ed Curry, anyone else I will probably be looking for a few guys to join me on the trip and we may not sleep on the boat if I don't convince the grandparents to come out.

A real beautiful place with everything and outrageous views. The Predwin on shelter island . Just cross on ferry to greenport in morning about 200' from marina. The north ferry walk on is 1.00 one way.

hey folks i figured id wait till the banter started again to jump in.You can make reservations now Michells marina 6314772200 attn jeff C dock .I Think i may take charge of the t shirts and the clam bar we had setup in in prior years. In regard to the tent which we can have again, the town wants a insurance rider or event specific policy.I got a quote of $ 575.00 plus the tent costs. Its never easy. We had the welcoming party on friday afternoon and i think that worked out well with the Brewster lobster fest on saturday .We can still have the get together and i think we only have to insure if we have the tent.Any thoughts? There is the Greenporter Hotel few blocks,Harborview very close a bit pricy .Soundview a few miles away. tom hart

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
$575.00 insurance rider for a couple of days is outrageous! Hell the tent itself probably doesn't cost that much, or am I missing something? $575 for a total liability insurance maybe?

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
TJ ... that sounds like a real big number.
Is it just a liability policy ? What are the limits that they require ?
I work for an insurance company here on LI, but we only do Homeowners and Auto.
Through some of the underwriters here, I may be able to find a better rate.
Please don't take as trying to step on toes ... not intended that way, just trying to help us all out.

Re: 2013 Northeast Rendezvous Ideas
I'm gonna dust off the raffle request letters from a few years back.
I think I can get Montauk Marine Basin to do a donation and I'm gonna try on Guy Harvey again (the picture that I won is very proudly displayed in my living room in FL).
If anyone else has an affiliation or good rapport with any potential donators, please try to work your magic ..... I can offere the letter used if you would like.
What I asked from Montauk Marine (and they did the donation a few years back) was a free 2 night stay, mid-week for a 31, but the boat must buy $250 of fuel. That might work for some other marinas as well ... and what the heck, that aint terrible !
