Erie barge canal

Anyone heard anything about the canal being closed, we want to leave with boat in several weeks but the images of the canal damage from the high waters in lake Champlain look severe, may be a long time for the repairs, I'm not sure I can go thru the St lawrence sea way due to the tower ht and going thru Chicago adds maybe 2weeks to the trip south, looking for inside info, in particular the maximum ht to navigate the canal system coming out of Montreal toward the Hudson, have not made that trip

Listed are the height requirements for the various segments of the Canal.

Clearances for navigating under bridges are as follows: Erie Canal (Waterford to Three Rivers Junction): 20 feet (6 meters) Erie Canal (Three Rivers Junction to Tonawanda): 15.5 feet (4.75 meters) Oswego Canal: 20 feet (6 meters) Champlain Canal: 17 feet (5.168 meters) Cayuga - Seneca Canal: 17 feet (5.168 meters) Boaters should check the official Website of the New York State Canal Corporation (see the link below), or call 1 - 800 - 4CANAL4 for any published changes to bridge clearances prior to their trip.

If the Lake Champlain segment is closed, you could go via the St. Lawrence to Oswego on Lake Ontario and then Oswego to the Hudson River via the Erie Canal. It would probably add 4 to 5 days to your trip.

looks like the barge canal may be down for months, the Champlain is still high, may not be able to get under the17' mark, considered taking a sawzall to the sunshade hardtop , lots of wiring issues, hydraulic line issues, .no assurances the Champlain will remain open ,limited schedule openings, looks like the boost will spend another winter in heated winter storage, I'm heading south next week to get the Bertram out of air conditioned summer dry storage, go figure, thx for your help
