I have 3 friends who trained all year and went. One almost drowned. This place is serious. Congrats to Kelly Slater (Florida boy), 10 time world champ, won the contest there yesterday.

check this out.....much more coverage of that day. while it was extremely tame by comparison we did enjoy some flawless clean overhead waves from irene. i am completely surfed out.......a great feeling when you are two months shy of 64.

I figure the guys in the observation boats have a few onions also......Looks like they are almost sucked in.

These shots are like the famous Laird Hamilton footage from the same spot.

Yeah...Irene was fun...but bush league compared to this.

giff the way i hear it its such a well defined reef pass with such a well defined channel it breaks in exactly the same place every time. i have a friend that surfed it. he got annihilated.
