Speaking for myself, I thought Greenport was as close to perfect as you can get. I wouldn't have a problem going back for a second time.

how could you possibly top the village entertainment and the facilities at greenport. lets also consider the guy(brewster) putting the dinner together ,logistic for one! my vote is greenport

Greenport was pretty damned good. I would vote for Newport, RI however. 2 reasons.

1) Variety is the spice of life.
2) We had virtually no one from north of RI, and there are a lot of boats up there! Do you want it to be able to include those from MA once in while?

If Newport is a possibility, we ought to touch base with them asap.

Being new to the site. Can you all fill me in on the details. Do these typically take place during the week or on the weekend. How many days is it? Someone gets a price for the marina, are there arrangements made for any meals or is it all on your own?

Not sure my boat will be ready for a trip to Greenport or possibly further but i will be hopeful that i am comfortable with her condition by then.

Usually the first weekend in August. Based on the location, reservations are made at a selected marina on a per-foot basis. Usually a nice Saturday night dinner on a per head basis at prices dictated by where we are and who's running it that year. Greenport last year had about 30 boats plus a super lobster dinner catered by Brewster's Seafood! Lots of fun, friends etc.

Mike, I like that idea! Brew, it isn't intolerable if you negotiate in advance for a group rate. It was about the same as everywhere else we have gone. I did like Greenport, it was a great spot. Pulling up while Caesar was being murdered was a bit surreal! I understood it better the next day. No doubt Greenport was great. But the participation from the north is fun!

iam up for what ever every one would like, greenport was great last year,i would gladly run it again if it was greenport, but unfourtunatly i have to much on my plate this year with moving into a new place, who ever wants to step up to the plate i have all the info on dvd i can send.

drive out by car and enjoy the festivities.

It's always a comprimise Dug. The further south we go, the more northern boats that don't come.
The further north we go, the more southern boats that dont come.

I will be hopeful that the boat is in good enough condition to make the trip. If not i will certainly drive. That is if it is on Long island, i dont think i can commit to anything further at this point.

i think mike has a good idea....one afternoon everyone should go out and do a giant raft up. there are some great nooks and crannies within a short run from greenport. or even off gardiners island.

no problem.....i used to do it with a few friends and their boats quite a bit. it really is fun if you are in the middle of nowhere, the water is warm and clear and some fish are biting. oh...and there's lots of beer etc. about 30 bertrams in a circle would be a hoot.

Have you seen the video of all the sea rays that rafted up in Fire Island Inlet and then got sucked out with the tide? Scary stuff.

BTW....at one time in my life i owned a sea ray......no wheres near a bertram but far from the worse boat i ever owned.

I know those folks. They dock in the marina behind my house. I tie up with them on occasion.Excellent selection of wine and snacks. Bring larger than normal fenders when rafting with them. And a knife.

well that explains it.
my sea ray...a 22 foot ski boat, came with fenders more appropriate for my friends 60 foot bertram. 3 of em. i still use them for rafting up the bertram.

dug newport would be find but you would need sombody to shoulder the dinner responsibility,pick a marina with facilities we need , and a tent or restarant to use . quite a big assignment. i in but we need someone in the area to come forward . first weekend in august is tough . i could put it on at oakdale yacth with free tent,two great restarants within walking distance.i could arrange a band/dj for short money. the only problem is in august every slip is taken . we could raft in the river 500' from marina for free but you would have to boat back and forth to marina for facilities.and no electric.

I'm with everyone on the Greenport venue.It is the perfect size town....not too big, not too small. I thought it was great, especially the facility, and of course can't forget the cultural experience (Shakespeare and Bertrams)...Wife loved it as well. Lots to do. I'd go back there in a heartbeat.

Newport is nice as well, but pricey. Being from RI....no big deal for me been hanging out down there since it was a Navy town, complete with strip joints and seedy bars...not the trendy place it is now. One idea that may make Newport more reasonable, they have floating dock/moorings. I beleive these are fairly reasonable.....but access to shore will be by launch or dingy. Not sure this will work.,,,,just a thought.

It was a great get together, and a fantastic location. Its really a nice venue, pleasant little town, good ice cream, no complaints!

Great to think about it while the snow still comes down!
