Fall oil change

Post by STeveZ »

I store my 28 about a 5-10 minute idle from the dock. In the past I've taken it over there, changed the oil, then winterized the engines once its blocked. It would be more convenient to change my oil at my dock. Then run it over for storage at my convenience, probably have my wife follow me in the Whaler. I'm wondering how much difference that 5-10 minute run would really make, would it "contaminate" the oil for the 5 months of storage ahead.

Nope, no more than just pouring it in the engines. You want to run the engies a little anyway to get the fresh oil circulated. But down here the boats stay in all year so I'm not much of an authority, just seems right to me?

UV's correct.

After changing the oil for winterization I would always start and run the engine to normal temp to burn off any condensation.

As long as you have fresh clean oil and filters for the winter, you're fine/ Many of us have to run from our slips to another location for hauling. No damage at all. Walter
