Count Down to Atlantic City

Post by JohnD »

I'm looking forward to the Rendezvous and finally being able to bring my boat. I've had my B35 for 5 years and have slowly been reconditioning different systems to make her sea worthy enough for such a trip. This is my year I'm damn well going to enjoy it.

I'm leaving the Chesapeake on Wednesday next week and will stay the night in Cape May, arriving in Atlatic City on Thursday. Depending on how I feel & the weather, I may make the run back on Sunday in one day.

I'm packing plenty of ice and a couple of blenders. Since Charlie has the Pina Colada's covered, I'll bring Mudslides and Margaritas. Oh yeah, may need some food, PB&J should do.

I haven't decided about fishing on Saturday yet, in past years Friday night has been too much fun.

Dinner tickets are ordered and some $$ packed for t-shirts, Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.

Have a good trip. Will catch up with you over a cold one Friday night.

Hopefully the weather will be the same as last year for the trip up and back- Delaware Bay was like a lake!!!

Cheers

John,
I hope you have a great trip to AC. I am not able to make it this year. I realy enjoyed meeting everyone last year and had a ball. I am going to miss seeing Sea Nile first hand and admire Joe's craftsmanship. John D if you bring you B20 to obx of rock season let me know. I hope everyone great weather for AC.

We're really looking forward to it too. She's still in Philadelphia and has a punch list of things to do before we head for OC NJ on Saturday July, 15. Funny to think how I registered for last years event and am barely making this years rendezvous. Probably leave Philly early saturday am and would like to stop in Cape May for a late breakfast and to give the boat a good look over before the final leg to OC. Planning on giving the boat a good wash on Thursday before the rendezvous and hopefully she'll be all set.

JK, know what you mean. Jan of 05 I thought I'd make it but didn't finish the rudder shelves until then end of June, at least this year its cosmetic stuff. I was just thinking last night I've got to finish the re-assembly of the fighting chair and spool the reels if I even hope to fish.

Capt Frank, regrets on you not being able to make it and though I may make it down this fall the B20 is probably going to be in pieces. I'm in process of deciding to do the transom and re-wire while the motor is being worked on. I just picked up one of those poly garages to keep her dry and give me someplace to work.

Mack, you're on & if you want to ride up early, you're welcome to ride along.

I checked the extended forecast for next week and it looks like there’s a chance of showers for Wed/Thurs. I’ll hope it changes between now and then.

Gotta call & schedule the short haul to clean the props/shafts & get the carpet installer lined up.

Won't be long now!!!

I can thank Captain Pat. I think he found that one from the files of past Rendezvous'. You are right that is me. I think Doc put the Martini in my hand though.

It's 10pm and I just finished pulling out old staples out of the floor from the carpet. I must have been crazy for replacing the carpet 10 days before I needed to leave for AC.

But hey, at least I'm floating, just 10k little things to do between now and then..

I haven't seen the Enclosure guy since Friday and he's not on my good list right now. I guess I ought to go buy a new windshield wiper motor just incase the Delaware lives up to it's reputation.

MikeO, are you going to be able to make it to AC this year?

Spoke to Canvas guy last night and he's putting up the new bimini tomorrow, ought to help keep the sun off my bald head ;). Even thinks he may have the front of the enclosure done by Tuesday night, which would be really cool.

I just too Lady D over this morning to have a short haul and blow the bottom off, I need all the help I can get. Replaced a couple of zinc's and put the plug in my transduce (covers where the no pivot bolt goes) now I don't loose the bottom at 20+ kts. Wasn't a real big deal since I don't see that speed often (read jealous of Diesel-Doug).

Anyway get back to the dock and plug in and turn on A/C units sinc around noon the humidity was starting to kick. I here the compressors kick on then off and then I pop the shore power breaker..... Turns out that the A/C water pump went up, I could hear it run so I hope it's just the impeller. I picked up a replacement and they've got a new one if I need it.

I feel kind of like I'm working on the TV show "Overhauling" racing against the dead line. Not that I've got their skill or resources.

Carpet guy will be there tomorrow to install the new carpet. It sure was a pain pulling the staples from the old carpet. I would love to re-build the floor, but that's for another day.

Curtains are being made today and should go in tomorrow.

Saturday I'm taking some of the family to Rock Hall for the day to swim, lunch and celebrate my Aunt's 84th birthday. Hope the weather and boat hold.

I worked on the some of the charts last night and it looks like about 5 hours to Cape May with a tail wind at 20kts, probably be 6 hrs in the end. I'd like to stay at South Jersey, but the Tuna Tourney starts Wednesday. I'd like to take the wife to that place we went for Dinner durning the Shark Tourney. Then Breakfast at DocK Mike's Thursday (after the Tuna guys get out) then a nice easy run to Atlantic City.

Cheers,
JohnD

John,
That was the Lobster House and I think they have dockage while dining.
Worst case scenario there is plenty of anchorage room over by the Coast Guard station. You bring your kids ? If you need offshore tackle I have plenty of 30's and 50's just say the word. Jimmy needs someone to compete with...

I thought maybe they had dockage there. Man feeding her lobster 2 nights in the same week and she's gonna forget we're just Po'Folks ;)

This is going to be a kid-free trip, after my indoctrination into the Del-Bay aboard the Crows nest, they'll have to get a little older before I take them. Not to mention there isn't a whole lot for a 7 & 4 yr old to do on the Docks.

I've got a couple of 114's & 113's and I'd only feel comfortable going 20-30 miles out. I'm lucky to get 3/4mpg and don't want to push it. I've got some green machines and other stuff to drag. If you could toss in a couple of 30's that would help me with a 4-6 pole spread. It would be the first time on my own boat otherwise I'd enjoy the lazy life at the docks.

btw, if you don't fish I highly recommend taking a cruise on one of the new Bertrams if they're doing it this year. It's a great time, though in a good way it makes me appreciate my boat even more.

JK, I don't think there's a time other than standard check in around noon. This is the first year that Thursday is optional and since I'm making such a long journey (for me at least) I wanted to have as much time as I could.

I think the Tock-Tail party kind of kicks off around 4-6?? I think it's going to be on the same pier as our boats. Previously it was on another pier where the factory boats were.

I'm not sure if I'm up for sharkin, too much bait cutting and I don't have the right tackle.

Unless I can talk Hav & Sy into joining me (and bringing some rigs). Guy's I've got A/C, TV and a comfortable bed.....I'm just alot slower than Doug.

I've got enough stuff for a Tuna/Dolphin spread, just have to get a handle on where and how far I'd need to go to get on the fish.

If nothing else, some wreck fishing wouldn't be bad.

btw, I can hook you up with some ICE if you want to make a trip to Glen Burnie before you leave. Let me know and I'll make arrangements. I've only got (2) 100qt coolers & (1) 80qt

maybe a no-show in AC

Post by Doc »

Just got the bad news from Holtz that the latest leak in Happy Hour oil line, is going to take an engine removal to fix. I may be a dock walker this year in AC, as I doubt this repair will be finished in time to make the rendezvous. The good news is that I can make my Martinis in a shaker.....no power required.
Looking for tomorrow!

Doc, that's bad news. I looked forward to seeing Happy Hour this year, you guys were missed last year.

C'mon anyway, you'll be welcome and we'll find you some space to sit, mix and talk. Afterall, AC is the only place I'm allowed to have Martini's ;)

Who knows, perhaps Holtz will turn up the heat and get that leak fixed.

SeeYa Next Week,

John,
You want to take my SSI 320 qt cooler for the trip ? I never use it anymore and it's 80 gallons (big enough to put a dead hooker in-so I'm told). Ice lasts about 4 days in it.

Dad is only coming down for Saturday and bringing my mom with him. If I fish at all it would probably be inshore, even though I can run almost as fast as Doug....just don't like that 50gph fuel burn. More than likely, I will probably be a dock rat for the weekend and enjoy the amenities of the marina, casino, and the company of the faithful.

Doug, I've already got 3 coolers so I'll pass on the behemoth. I was just offering ice for it if you were going to bring it.

Harv, Looks like I’ll be a dock rat myself. I had a starter go up over the weekend and will have to run all the way back on Sunday. I thought we had the kids covered until Monday night, but now need to pick the up on Sunday instead :(

See Ya in a few days,
JohnD
