detached liner

Post by matt »

got my b28 pretty much stripped down and noticed the liner is detached from the hull sides about 80% aruound the entire boat. looks like someone tried to rebond it with bondo but is is still loose. what steps should be taked to fix this? tab it on with glass or somehow get the old bondo out and rebond it
also the "fairing strip" or wood strip at the top cap joint is broken and debonded looks like teak should i replace it with teak? and should it be bonded to the hull before the top is screwed back on?

Matt:

Post a picture of a typical section of the 'de-bonded' liner if you can.

That will elicit some comments for sure.

The 'fairing' strip you refer to sounds like the backer for the rub rail - if so you can either use 3M's 4200,5200,epoxy or whatever to re-attach your replacement, assuming you will be replacing/re-attaching the rub rail also.
Careful of bonding wires and other wires that might be supported on sections of the backer.......

I used mahogany as replacement for some sections of mine.

Don't worry about the ribbing we B28 stewards get here.....our numbers are growing!
