Is this a good deal

Post by STraenkle »

I have been Tuna fishing, but always had to borrow equipment, so, wonder what 3 130 bent butts with penn international reels and 2 80's with the same setup would be worth? All five with line and a few other things thrown in.

Around here a used 80W and bent butt rod is worth about $500 if in good condition, the 130s probably 6 or 700. If the 80s are not the Wides, then mush less. The line is worthless unless you can verify its new. If the reels are basket cases, Tom Testa with Reel Colors can refurbish them better than new for fairly short money.

It's been a couple of years, but up in Ct, Mass, NH, and Maine I've seen (and paid) ~200 for a decent/good used #80 class bent butt rod. The reels depend on what they are, i.e. 130 2sp, old 130's, etc. A decent 130 will fetch around 500 or more depending on condition. I've seen them as low as 400, but they were old and real beat. The 80's are worth much less. But if you're going for giant's, forget the 80's. I fished them for years and after almost getting spooled a few times i went to 130's. Also I think the 130's are better for the fish. you get them to the boat much quicker with them.

UV's right, the line's worthless. Also plan on full rebuilds on the reels to be safe.

Thanks, I guess 2,000 would be a decent price (for all of it). I am just tired of borrowing gear and then feeling like I owe people.

thats a real good deal if the rod butts are stuart or aftco unibutt ? aftco rollars guides and tip? if the rods are rated 80lbs and the 130lbs are they are graphite you would expect 250 to 300 for the 80lbs and 400/450 for 130lbs rods this long island used for brand name rods and the reel can vary greatly 500 for a used penn international/2speed vsw and 550 for 130. check e-bay for big game reels under boat parts-----salt water reels
