California white sea bass... Distant cousin to the east coast croakers, redfish, and trout.

Capt.....that's one big ass croaker......

Harv, that looks like what we call a Triple Tail....they hang around pilings or bouys....in the shade.....really spooky fish.....you gotta be a wizard at bait presentation and a well hidden hook to catch these guys......the reward is certainly worth the effort...

BTW fresh Croakers fry up pretty dog gone good....

Friends: This is a 213# calif. Black seabass.. Caught 200m off the baja coast out 200m down from S.D. Legal in mex. We kept it..
Skiff trip on the Polaris Supreme...
They put you in a 15'skiff after you hook one .we were in the cove at north point.
Weather was up big time & the fish swam out to sea... ,so when I got it up the 2 decky in the boat with me tried to gaff it .. to tuff.. so they gaffed it in the mouth.. The fish jumped into the skiff with me.. they flew into the water..
Image
(Guadalupe Is.. is famous for G.W. Sharks.)
Anyway it was a fish to remember..
Tastes like abalone.. But tuff...the cheeks alone were like a thick 1/2# hambrger
Heres a pic of my son Dan's fish a few days ago.
Not 200# but big for here.

Wayne,

Nice brace of C-Bass. Glad to see you are still getting a few this late in your area.

We had a nice run on them up here in the Channel Islands this year.

Very tasty fish.

Wayne,

Those are some big boys there. Looks like they're loading up on the squid.

I would have skipped court for that bite.
