Was the boat that dick bertram used to run the race from miami to bermuda a wood version of the present day 31.? question came up the other day. thanx

Bob,
The first race, in 1960, was in the cold molded glass over wood prototype of the B31. The first one named after Dick's wife, "Moppie". From 1961 & on, all were fiberglass hulls...

That amounts to about 5 gazillion gallons of gas in a V8 31 to Bermuda, I think Nassua is only a couple hundred :wink:

Hey Guys,
It's JJ down here in Bermuda. I wish that we had been part of the Legend but unfortunately there was no Bertram raced to here.
We've got some fast ones down here though!

Dick Bertram did win the Newport Bermuda sailboat race a record 3 times (record still stands) with Carleton Mitchell aboard Finesstre (sp?)-
In the middle of a rebuild...

It was Miami to Nassau, it was in a 30' Ray hunt designed wooden deep v that was turned into a plug for the first F/G 31's.
