best coat for Pat's stainless rudders

Post by Bermuda Brother »

Hey guys,

What is the best stuff to coat the stainless rudders with rather than painting on the bare stainless?

Chlorinated rubber primer followed by two part metal primer. Interlux and Pettit both make them. Use the system and you could get up to two years out of the bottom paint on metal.

Pettit:

Good System (which I used):

Metal Primer 6455/044* (1 coat)
6627 Tie-Coat Primer (1 coat)
Antifouling (2 coats)

Better system (according to Pettit):

Sandblast or Abrade Surface
Metal Primer 6455/044* (1 coat)
4700/4701 Pettit Protect (2 coats)
Antifouling (2 coats)

I used 2 coats of Pettit Ultima SR or Ultima Pro ablative bottom paint

Here it is in kit form:

I still have the hardware for you. When do you need it?
