Rust proofing engines

Post by DRIFTER31 »

First i want to say thanks for a great site and all the knowledge. I installed two Cummins re-mans recently and want to spray the engines with something to protect them. I am a big fan of CX and used it to dip all wire ends in before crimping and shrinkwrap but cant bring myself to coat the fresh engines with it, Looking for something that dries clear. Any suggestions? I re-painted the crappy paint job Cummins did before installing and use 125W Wolverine oil pan heaters yearround as well. This is the one i am growing old with and the{last boat i re-do} REALLY.

Troy,

From our esteemed Judicial Fly Boy & Maintenance Fanatic, Prince of Potions, & better known as Da' Judge, (Trey):

Use red CX, (you need the non-aerosol variety) and mix 1:1 with lacquer thinner. Spray and/or mist the mix on. The lacquer thinner evaporates off after a few hours leaving a fine film of CX.

Trey uses this potion on just about everything that needs the CX magic bullet, but not leaving a heavy greasy residue, including his airplane, vehicles, & boats.

Br,

Patrick

I have not seen the non aerosol type around. Is that special order stuff?
Going to do oil change and tranny fluid soon. Need to go over mine with CX.
Rust got to the filter cap on my zf45, can not find replacement anywhere online. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Keven,

You'll have to go on line and google it. I found some a while back when I finally ran out of the two non-aerosol containers UV sent me.

Kevin,

A very nice gal, Doreen owns it. Single mom trying to make it.

I been buying from her for years.

Thanks.....Its just hard to slime up these virgins when they look soo good.
I have the CX, CXHD, and red CX non aresol. I dipped EVERY stripped wire on the refit before crimping in the red CX and let it bleed up the wire. I was told by an avaition mechanic there is no better way.

You can actually cut the CX more than 50/50 with lacquer thinner if you want less residue....I have gone as low as 20% CX and it still seems to work fine.
