This boat is for sale in La Spezia, Italy. They ask 240K euro. She looks like Buddy Boy...

You are correct, it is Buddy Boy......with Patrick at the helm and Bruce in the cockpit. I guess members of the yacht brokerage services are allowed to advertise listed yachts as a "co-broker".

the boat is at Hinckley yard in Stuart, at least was a month ago, was in the water for a while in aug september

Hmm...the Broker's Ad says that it is possible to see boat in La Spezia near Genova. I can find out.

They may have shipped it over, I got some volvo trim tabs at Hincley in late summer and the parts guy said they pulled the engines to do some bulkhead repair, that was late hurricane season when I pulled my boat in a storm panic.

Yeah, Randy, I'm kinda' curious about that too... Since I know exactly how the cabin/cockpit bulkhead is constructed, I'm having a hard time figuring out what could need repair. The bulkhead is double thickness 1/2" plywood laminated with epoxy. Full 1"... The engine spaces were Awlgriped before the sound proofing was installed.

Images below show the engine spaces primed with 545 prior to the Awlgrip. Before priming, the fwd engine bulkheads were sealed with epoxy...

i really cant imagine an "issue". that puppy was rock solid and brand new....and anyone who "alters" it is an idiot.

I don't doubt given the condition I saw it in July of 07 in Atlantic Beach that bringing it to Florida to sell just made it that much worse.

I know first hand the neglect Florida "we're on top of it" yards can produce even though owners get charged a premium.

Many times boats on the hard get water damage from rain due to dead batteries allowing it to sink from the inside out.

It also could have been some wind storm damage.

They also could have been slow that month in the yard. This is Florida afterall.

Guy's,
I went by the Hinkley Yard in Stuart today and Buddy Boy is on the hard sitting between 2 Hinkley Pinic Boats, still looks good from a distance. I don't know how it can be seen in Italy unless it's a hologram. The photo they are using is the front cover picture I took for the survey I did for Jim Bailey back in March of 2004, Bruce is in the cockpit and Pat is on the bridge taking in the ICW in West Palm.

Maybe the Italian broker used the Buddy Boy pic from the survey as a "sister ship" pic for another B31 he has there, but did not say so in the listing?

Knowing how all brokers are so careful to completely disclose all the facts.......... Hmmm.

I felt a little bit guilty to have posted the picture of Buddy Boy and have created all this fuss, so yesteray I called the italian broker to find out what the story was. Yes they are selling Buddy Boy but it is not in La Spezia as advertised. I pretended to know nothing about and I asked why they were asking 240 k when normally in Italy they ask 100 - 140 k for a re-powered B31. He told me that this is not just a restored B31, but probably the best Bertram 31 ever restored. A boat for passionate experts. The price includes transportation, duties, VAT and registration fees.

It is a real pity that this fine boat is sitting abandoned in a yard and not where it belongs: the water. Unfortunately I do not have that money to spend...
