Montauk Rendezvous Report and T-shirt Status

Post by In Memory Walter K »

The 2008 Northeast Rendezvous at Montauk broke even thanks to Brewster's great catering at cost, the friends of Bertram 31.com who donated the many prizes and Bob Fiorese whose efforts selling raffle tickets closed the gap. Mike Ohlstein graciously donated the manufacturing of the T-shirts which he will be delivering to me sometime next week. It has always been my goal to have a Family Friendly affordable Rendezvous AND make enough to make a donation to Captain Patrick who makes this all possible. Mike's T-shirts will make that happen! Thank you Mike! I have some checks and cash payments given to me at the Rendezvous. I will send shirts to them as soon as I get them. To everyone else, you can order T-shirts at $15 each. Send your orders and checks to me, Walter Kaprielian, 15 Wigwam View Lane, East Hampton, NY 11937. Be sure to include your address for shipping. Many thanks to all of you! Walter

Russ-I'm going to include the postage unless I get a big surprise at the Post office. Don't forget to tell me the sizes you want. If I get into trouble, I'll get back to you. Walter

Walt,

Thanks again for ramroding the Montauk Event! It was a great get together and without your donation of my airfare, would have been only enjoyed from afar. I hope that act of kindness was covered by the event proceeds.

Best regards,

Patrick

Walt and others,

Just got my December issue of MotorBoating magazine (Riviera 38 on cover) in the mail, and it has a fabulous article on the Bertram 31 Montauk Rendezvous with some great photos. There is a centerfold photo of Bob Lico's Phoenix at speed, and that shot alone makes quite a statement about the boat and the faithful. Capt. Patrick and Bertram31.com were billed as the go-to guy and the go-to site for these classics; and host Capt. Walter Kapreilian and his Blue Beard were profiled. Giff Plume w/Shearwater, Doug Stowe w/Alchemy, Neal Franzoni & family (including Tim Kisieleski) w/Bahia Moon, and Jeff Pagano w/Wits End all got billing. The running shots of Alchemy and Shearwater look great, as well as the shot of a school of 6 Bertrams idling along.

You Montauk guys make us all very proud; congratulations to all of you!

Wow! Great news! Haven't seen it yet but proves that hard work and persistence pays off. I've been telling Gary Caputi the writer/photographer about our group for a long time and this year he took me up on my invitation. Can't wait to read what he said and see how the magazine laid out the story. My thanks to everyone who proved to him I wasn't making it all up. You all made me proud! Walter

One correction, Tim Kisieleski (with a chocolate Lab) is shown fishing on Blue Beard (not Bahia Moon).

Dug, I hope that's Liz with you on Alchemy.....if not, you'd better hide the MotorBoating magazine when it arrives.

tommy i had spoke to gary prior to the photographic shoot taken from tom ward`s 54 bertram.i said i would give him a action shot so i brought phoenix up to 33 knot when i past gary i turn lock to lock into 4' waves.ihave driven many a boat and i can`t think of one fbc sportfisherman that could come close to tuning like that without severe rolling i attibute it to the huge rudders and race car steering but the tumblehone hull is probally the best feature of a 31bertram.i could possibly be wrong but the us navy just spent a zillon dollars building there first tumblehone hull destroyer since ww1 apparantly all the computor added cad designs and research money can not inprove on the 31 bertram hull!!!!---------------------amen

Walt-

Hang on to a couple of "large" shirts for me. Check is on its way. Did not know about the MotorBoating article until a guy in my marina brought it up to me..., now the Sheawater is the "G" dock celebrity. Great event. Many thanks to you for putting it on as well as Gary for writing the article.

The first batch of Northeast Rendezvous T-Shirts is in the process of being mailed...as far away as Hawaii. I want to remind everyone that all the proceeds from the sale of these T-shirts after postage and packaging will go to Captain Patrick for the site, so consider a purchase as a donation to the site.

Got my shirts yesterday.
Lookin real good.
2xl does the trick, either they're cut large
or I lost a few pounds.

Now I just need to find a copy of Motor Boating.
It seems no one in Queens or Brooklyn stocks it anymore.

Thanks, Mike and Walter

Glad you got them. The postage is on us! Encourage more purchases as I'm planning to send the proceeds to Captain Patrick as a donation to the site! I know it's no longer T-shirt season, but ...Walter

Tommy,

I was finally successful at finding a copy of this blasted magazine in the central MA area. Believe it or not I went to Barnes and Noble, Waldenbooks, CVS, Walmart, and Target before I finally found two copies at Borders. No one carries that magazine here... Too bad I say.

What a great article, after a great weekend. Gary was fun to talk with after the scary clouds went by and the rain settled in. Yep, it is Liz on the flybridge with me, along with Marly the wonder dog sitting on the helm bench with me. Bob, if I had known you needed to provide an action shot, I would have happily joined in with you on that nutso turn!

Good times in life. Thank you all for being a part of it for us!

Dug,

I have the same problem here....Barnes & Noble, CVS, 7-11 stores, local magazine racks, even the local bait & tackles.
Are you planning on mailing me the extra copy?

Neil,

If you guys up there in the big Yankee cities near the ocean think it's a problem to find a boating magizine, just imagine finding a copy of Motor Boating in Bum Freak Texas... Most folks around here think the B31 in my front yard is a megayacht.

If you can grab me copy, I'd sure appreciate it!

Patrick

border books handles motoboating but only had oct. issue.they informed me they will have dec. issue in a few weeks.dug would have been sweet having two bertrams side by side in a radical turn like that .i would have mention it to you but didn`t know you had captain patrick rudders-----sorry.best if you practice in calm water first,we are talking "g" forces here at 33knots turn the wheel to lock as fast as you can turn.if you lock everything down in the cabin there is allways next year.

OK guys, the last orders in my hands went out today. Lots of extra large and XX larges left. Some large and a few mediums left, too. Lets have some more donations for Captain Patrick and the site. Each shirt purchase is a donation! I'd like to pull off a 4 digit number but need your help to do that. I know you don't really need another T-shirt, but do it anyway! Walter
