aluminum bracket and fastener question

Post by matt »

I got my hands on some 3"x4" 6061 aluminum angle to use for some brackets on my restore. What is the appropriate fastener to use above or below the water line. Stainless?
thanks in advance,
matt

Stainless steel is about your only choice. In particular I would use Alloy 316 stainless.

If you can insulate the stainless fastener from the aluminum bracket you will keep corrosion to a minimum and I would certainly apply Tefgel to all of the fasteners.
