Kipp,
Did you go to Cabo yet?
I'm not sure but indecision may or may not be my problem.

Alm tank treatment

Post by Geaux Deep »

I used a Benjamin Moore product.

I applied a cleaner first I can't remember the name but it was a BM product. Then I applied two coats of a two part paint.

"Polyamide Epoxy Coating Gloss".

This is a heavy duty commercial Industrial paint.

I am well satisfied. - RH

I did my new tank a couple of years ago.

I don't remember all of the paticulars, but I know I did my homework and ended with a product called Alumiprep and Alodine for the tank. They clean and chemically etch the surface to create a better bond for the coating you use.

I used Devoe Coating's Devtar 5A for the coating.

Devtar 5A was tricky to get but an hour or 2 on the computer and 1 or 2 phone calls got me two gallons for ~$200? Call Devoe directly and work your way to a distributor. I believe Devoe was sold when I was looking for the product but the new company still recognized and carried Devtar.

Alumiprep was fairly easy to find. I think I actually ended up getting it at BoatUS.

I've attached links to pictures of both products. I believe my selections were primarily the result of Capt. Pat's recommendations on the tip page.

You've got to love the label on the Devtar!! It must be good if it is "For professional essential public service use" !!!
