Just a note to say the Q tabs work really well on the 31 and look good compacted against the transom vs the way standard planes stick out the back.
Unfortunately you will not be able to use the excuse that the tabs cut the line and my fish got away.

James, I love your 25, I looked over pictures on BD and Scot's web page. The only possible complaint I could have is the space behind the console to the transom. Since you looking to get the bow down, I am wondering if you feel you could have put the engine a little farther forward? I read all the explainations on Scot's page, but would like to think (hope actually, as thats a project I am interested in) it could move forward more. I am not by the way knocking your 25, it's the nicest by far that I have ever looked at, just more cockpit would be even better.

I was surprised to see the name of a charterboat I know, a 46' Carman, Never-E-Nuff. I first-mate when not in school on a few of the other charter boats on the same dock as Never-E-Nuff in Solomons, Md. I asked Captain Shaun about them and he says they've been great.

I've always thought that these were cool.... they work on the "separated bubble" theory, not unlike a pickup truck's tailgate. But I've never had any access to someone that had practical experience with them.
If I am correct (?) - when down, at slow speeds the Q tabs will create drag, but at planing speeds they will behave no differently than regular trim tabs.
Based on your actual experience, does that sound right?

Blade comes down out the bottom 90 degrees to the body "intercepting" the water creating drag.
Sorta like air brakes on a plane.
Apparently there is some limit to speed. 50 knots I think.
Any curved transom will require wedge blocks.
The last 31 I did, the owner likes to run fast in rough seas. Needed the bow to come down more to cut thru and splash him more on the bridge.
Didn't like the Bennet sticking out. Said he would have to add a platform to cover them up.
Saw them on the back of Gerry's 31 at my shop and liked the idea. I hadn't sea trialed Gerry's 31 so I didn't have any experience with them so we took a chance and they worked great.

Capt. Patrick, what are the two metal things above the drain in the transom? Zinc? Dynaplate? As I put my B28 back together I have more and more questions...Thinking about it, my b28 had the dynaplate on the bottom. Re-installing it on the transom would reduce some drag, however minimal. After blasting, filling,fairing, barrier coat, and new bottom paint on my Stamas 26 I picked up 2 knots.
I need to re-read the bonding page in the boat-building tips, but does the dynaplate get wired in to the bonding system? I'm just learning about bonding/grounding and the difference between them.

Scot is right, drain/zinc/underwater light.
Randal: storage on the other 2 compartments, no more electronics, clean & simple. Made out of fiberglass if that is what you are asking.
