Raw water Pump

Post by Harv »

Went fishing yesterday and when getting ready to head home, had the starboard raw water pump sieze up and headed home on one engine. Once at the dock, i shut the raw water intake valve and removed the pump and hose. Replaced the hose, but seem to be limited to either a Jabsco or Mercruiser pump, either of which is gonna run north of $300. Before I decide to order from this suplier I was wondering if anyone knows of a wholesaler, or other manufacturer, or if someone had a pump laying around from a gas to diesel conversion. The motor is an '88 454 FWC Merc. Was told at the marine supply that the blown pump appeared to be the original that came on the motor. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have an extra pump, but I replaced both of my merc. pumps with the Jabsco bronze a few years ago. The Jabscos were a little more than $200, while the plastic merc. pumps were more than $300. I bought one of mine at Larry's Lighthouse Marine on LI and the other at Ebasic Power. Same price both places. If I were doing it again, I definitely go with the Jabsco.

John,

I was quoted $299 for Jabsco and $389 for Merc. I found a website
http://www.cpperformance.com/default.aspx Which also seems to carry both,
for $296 Jabsco and $287 Merc.
My only concern on the Jabsco is that it doesn't appear to have the long bolts going through it that would enable me to remount it to the existing bracket.

Harv: Try Depco pump at:

They were very helpful in exploring alternatives for my Chrysler pumps.

Also try

Here is another option. I have used them in the past and usually have what I need.

The Jabscos I got bolted right in. Real easy job-at least on the port motor. Starboard was a little tougher.

O.K., here's the scope on what I did. Pulled up E Basic Power on line. Jabsco part # JAB43210-0001 is the part and was quoted $239.00US. But I had to ship them to N.Y.

Then I went to Freeport Marine and told them I neede two. had a price of $239.00. Counter man said best he cold do was $250.00 each. I took them on the spot. And they work GREAT!
