Rub rails

Post by Mikey »

Two items for your purusal and advice.
Spoke with Alex Whittaker about my rub rialproblem and if you're considering a new one give him a call.
Second, once the original rub rail is removed and boat prepped, how many hours should it take to install a new PVC rub rail?
Thanks

Install is pretty straight forward. Layout is a couple of hours, figuring the miter cuts is pretty intense and depending how good you are could take a few hours as well.
With the right clamps, hardware, caulk and layout complete its 2 guys a little over 8 hours. +/- for joint work.
Then the stainless (this is where you figure out how good your layout was).
I thought the number was around 5.5k to have a yard do it and that was including the materials.

Alex is mailing mine out on Monday. How hard is it to get the back corners cut just right? That part kind of scares me a little.

We basically followed the outlines in the building section of this site. Capt Pat outlines it pretty well. Just make sure you have some scrap to play with.
