Engine antifreeze change

Post by jrwolfe »

I have a B28 with Merc 260 hp engines that have a closed cooling system. Is there an easy way to flush the cooling system and change to fresh antifreese without having to remove all the drain plugs and dumping the old antifreeze into the bilge? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks, JW

Most engines have a drain plug low in the engine block. Refer to your manual or parts exploded views. I then attach a hose of appropriate size and dump into a bucket. Do this dry and position your bucket etc before you open the drain plug. You should do this every two years. You'll be amazed at the amount of rust and junk that comes out. That's not good for your closed loop cooling system impeller and thermostat(s).
Good luck. Dave Kosh
