Express
The cabin and cockpit of the express are the same size as the FBC, but the wide open feeling is contained somewhat by the side things (Capt. Pat would know the proper term) that extend from the cabin area to the ends of the engine boxes. These also keep a lot of spray out of that area.
The FBC is the classic 31 Bertram, with the prettiest lines of any boat ever built, but the express has a lot of advantages, especially when running short handed, and the same legendary hull beneath it.

Express bid
Not a bad looking boat, a hardtop express, like Mikey's. Somebody spent some time and money on the interior, and the window frames, etc look original and in good shape.
Harry, did you look at the engine boxes? These are the "normal" express boxes, with hatches on top that are hinged in the middle. They are much heavier than FBC or Bahia Mar boxes, since the steering and companion seating are on top of them. This gives an elevated helm over a Bahia Mar.
If this boat wasn't so far from Texas, I'd make a run at it. Buying a new canal lot very soon with more frontage, room for two boats to tie up.

This express is in damn nice shape compared to mine at purchase. Window frames look very nice. Hard top is not original but appears sound. This would make a grerat project if purchased right. Love to know the hull number.

The 1961-62 expresses are heavy. Pete Fallon has weighed his 1961, with gas engines, and gets around 15,000. He estimated my '62, with diesels, genset, AC, etc, would go 16,000, loaded weight.

Good evening Capt Mike
I did notice the engine boxes.............I'm sure that they have pluses but my favorite boxes are the one piece that when opened gives full access to all of the equipment.
This boat also has the original Bertram Bow Chock.
Tonight I am suffering with a kidney stone............It actually hit me Tuesday evening late.............
Any one have a miracle cure???

Boxes
The one piece box definately has an advantage when total acess is needed. I modified my original express boxes so they rest on a frame and can be unsecured and moved completely out of the way fairly easily. Not as easy as yours, but better than they came from the factory.
No experience with kidney stones, hope to keep it that way, but hope yours gets better.

Well if I get to use it a few times, that wouldn't be so bad.
I got a nice set of Steyers in mind for that project.
We'll see if I get outbid.
I have a set budget in mind and most likely some tard will come in at the last minute and outbid everyone else.
It's happend quite a bit to me.
I don't need anything so bad that I'll go nuts and over bid just to dance naked in the mirror upon winning the auction.

I was describing the type of person those Ebay over achievers are.
I guess if you thought of me, I should be flattered.
But your not my type, ya know that whole dangling participles thing.

Bruce,
Hopefully you are bidder #4. The boat is at most 15 mins away. I have never seen it out on the water around here but know where that marina is. I would be happy to go look at it for you or assist in anyway I can. Listing says it needs to be removed after the auction-ie first part of next week. I could move the whaler I never use & make room here at the house if need be. Its about 15-18 miles away by water so even if it needs towing its close.
My cell phone is 410-200-4386. Got my fingers crossed for you.
Timmy I noticed that shoot is sxs only. I'm not much with those old front rear trigger guns like my Smith- you got a single trigger sxs or can I be the non-conformist o/u guy. I'm siding with Bruce-you are starting to sound gay.
