Re: Plexy Glass Windshield
I've tried to get udp plastics to make me windshields before. I have put in online order, and made numerous phone calls, and emails with zero luck. I finally got to the point that I had to learn how to make my own windshields. It is really not that difficult to do. I recently removed the windshields from my boat. The curved sections were made to curve by simply installing them. You can use the old ones for patterns. You can heat them with an oven, heat gun, or something to that effect and curve them too. The hardest thing for me to learn was drilling without cracking. The make bits to drill plexi with, or you can simply take a drill bit, and sharpen it like a pencil.
Re: Plexy Glass Windshield
To drill acrylic or polycarbonate grind the leading edge square so it scrapes the material rather then biting into it. Once it bites it pulled the drill like a screw and crack.

I believe there is a thread somewhere on here about replacing the bridge windscreen. They are no longer available.

Thanks everyone for the info.
Re: Plexy Glass Windshield
To drill Plexiglas you need just an old drill bit for metals( no need to be new and very sharp) but also a piece of wood under the plexiglas .Dont try to drill it on the place, but mark first the points and after that put it on a table with a piece of wooden board under the Plexi.Hold them down tight and drill the Plexi till the drill bit reach the wood …
Re: Plexy Glass Windshield
Stavro, wouldn’t the drill bits for wood, with the pin in the middle and the three pointed sides be more appropriate for plexi drilling?
And how about cutting a line to separate two parts. There is a lot of vibration in this activity.

Till 10-12mm thickness of plexiglas we use to drill them with simple drill bit for metals .Either the plexiglas is cast or extruded..
Of course there are special drill bits for Acrylics with square nose but believe me you can do it with simple drill bit for steel… bu always have a wooden board under the Plexi..
For saw cutting Plexi you need a portable or table saw disk tool with carbon carbide teeth similar almost for fine cutting wooden panels , melamine boards ercr
You can use also a jigsaw but you need to have also the specific saw blade for plexiglas or other plastics.
With the right saw blade you can easily have a complex/curved cut..

Thanks.
Do you think you can make me a plexi fairing for my 28 flybridge which is a bit complicated in that it has a bend in the middle, as well as downsloping sides?
I can measure the thickness. I may want it in its exact dimensions, or perhaps a bit taller so that it offers more protection. It has a light blue hue.
Where in Acharnes are you? I will have to go to Tyligadas one of these days to pick up some cushions, are you anywhere near them?

Re: Plexy Glass Windshield
Hello Ironworker, I'm interested in the windshield you may have. I'm in Florida , and was hit by Milton back in October. It ripped my hardtop off and broke my windshield. I'll pay you for it or make a donation to the site . Thank you in advance, although not sure how to do all this . lol My phone number is 732-689-3286. RUSS -RASCAL
