I think that the best polish is 3M finesse it II (to bring out shine after buffing)

I think the best quick wax is Babes boat bright, which is pretty non streaky,

I would lean towards a ceramic coat wax for a long lasting wax. I don't have an opinion on brand yet. We send our new boats out to have them done per customer request. They typically last 2-3 years on a ceramic coat.

I used Fleetwax a high carnuba content paste wax for years. Buff the hull down with a light rubbing compound to get it clean, then do two coats of Fleetwax in quick succession and forget about it until next spring. The old gelcoat on the Bertram just loved the wax and seemed to absorb it which is why I did two coats. The boat gleamed. That was when I was a bit younger. Lately I’ve hired someone do the spring cleaning for me and he uses 3M. It looks fine early on but doesn’t last as well and by next spring it looks a bit tired.

There are some good ceramic products on the market that work well. I have had several discussions with a local Auto Detailing store about ceramic coatings. There are the ones that will get you through a season and those that will last a few years. The ones that last a few years are tricky to put on.

The key to any waxing job on the boat involves a lot of work. First you really need to clean it well, and you should strip off all the old wax. I use a product called PS 21 Total Auto wash for that. Wash the boat down with that, Dawn or any other strong detergent. I have even used a Mr. Clean Magic eraser along with the wash after I had soot from a fire sitting on the boat.

Once that is done, if there is any chalking you need to remove it. A good paint cleaner, McGuires, 3M etc. If not, too bad you can use McGuires fine cut cleaner.

Then depending on the shine you want, you can either polish the boat or move straight to the Wax or Ceramic Sealer.

I have been using Jescar Power Lock Plus the last two years. It lasts all season, and I found that by using Griots Garage Ceramic Car Wash that it not only holds up even longer, but I had fewer black streaks this year.

The thing I like about it is that besides lasting all season, it is easy to put on and take off and so far, no streaks. But lesson learned, you have to let it sit for 30 minutes or more before taking it off. I was running late and I let it sit all night. It got foggy during the night and must have done something to it because I had a bear of a time getting it off.

I spoke with the store where I purchased it and they thought that the fog must have reactivated it and then when it dried it got too hard.

I find it to be a great product but there are a ton of others just like it out there.

Thanks for all the input been using 3m scotch guard as well as Smoove which is a very high gloss but can be streaky and almost makes a season. Capy does the Meguire last a season?.
